Are Juicers Hard or Easy To Clean? (What to Expect)

Juicer’s cleaning- ease is one of the important features of your juicer, for lots of reasons. If you want to know more about it then you are in the right place

After every juicing session, if you have a hard time cleaning your juicer or need lots of time for cleaning, you will lose your interest in juicing for sure.

On the other hand, easy-to-clean juicers can give you a better yield, keep it functional for a long time, and a wonderful experience to continue your juicing journey for a long time.

so, are juicers are hard or easy to clean,

Every juicer is different, and some are harder to clean than others. Normally, juicer cleaning time ranges from 1 to 5 min. Cleaning time varies upon many factors, like the juicer screen area, when you are cleaning your juicer after juicing, and what products you are juicing, last but not least, the material and tool you are using for cleaning, and so on.

for instance, it becomes harder when the juicer screen area is bigger, and if you keep your juicer without cleaning for a long time after you juice something.

What fruits and vegetables you are making also has an impact on the ease of cleaning. for instance, soft fruits (eg pineapple) are hard to clean, and as pulp stuck in juicer screen more than other produce.

whether you are doing deep cleaning ( heavy cleaning with chemicals like baking soda ) ? also has an impact on cleaning time. normally you don’t need to deep clean every time after you juice something.

Juicer Parts: That is Hard to clean

Table for most stubborn parts of different juicer types are given below

Masticating Verticaljuicer screen
hydraulic press
and citrus juicer

Note: I have explain about different types of juicers in details below.

Normally most stubborn part of a juicer is the juicer screen, and pulp tends to stick on those juicer screen holes easily.

Normally, more the juicer screen area, more time is needed to clean a juicer.

You will also find hydraulic press and citrus juicer don’t have juicer screen, so, those types of juicers need less time for cleaning than others.

Cleaning time for different juicer types

Cleaning time will vary depending on juicer types. below you can know more about centrifugal, masticating, twin gear, and another type of juicer’s cleaning time.

Centrifugal type juicers

Centrifugal Force: centrifugal juicers are less time-consuming. Centrifugal juicers have blades that are made of steel. Blades and Shrader cut fruits and vegetables in a spinning container,

The centrifugal force pushes the juice out of pulps,  pushes the juice through a fine-mesh strainer, and forces the pulp into a waste container.

Centrifugal juicers will take around 3 to 4 min. you will need clean food pusher, feed chute , juicer outlet and juicer basket.

juicer basket consists juicer screen, shredder, and blades (blades are not so common except Breville’s centrifugal juicers). And these parts take more time to clean than that other parts.

These juicers need more time to clean than other types, as these types of juicers come with Shrader, blade, and bigger juicer-screen area than other juicers.

for instance, Beeville juicer takes about 3.35 min to clean. you can see below a cleaning video of a breville juice fountain .

Masticating Type juicers: Horizontal and vertical type

Masticating or slow juicer: this type of juicer uses a spiral auger, like the image below, to chew or masticate produces and make juice. this juicer system actually mimics the action of chewing.

The juice is slowly extracted and saved into one container while the pulp is extracted and sent into another.

there are two types of masticating juicers namely horizontal and vertical. horizontal will take around 1 to 2 min and vertical will take around 2 to 3 min.

Vertical takes more time as those have more parts to clean and these juicers are more complex than that of horizontal juicers

for instance,

  • Horizontal juicer: omega NC800 or NC900 takes around 2 min to clean all the parts, and on other hand vertical jicer like vsj843 will take around 2 to 3 min
  • Champion juicer will take only 60 sec or one min to clean this juicer.

The easiest to clean horizontal slow juicers are champion juicers. it easier to clean because its juicing screen is not like tube shape like most other horizontal juicers

you can check out the bellow video about this juicer.

Twin Gear Type juicers

Two augers of this juicer press so hard or grind the fruits and vegetables into tiny particles. And then, those particles go through a juicer-screen to separate juice and pulp.

parts to be cleaned in a twin gear juicers are wooden plunger, plastic plunger, juicer twin gears, juicer screen, open blank, juice pitcher.

twin gear takes around 3 min for cleaning. For instance, an angel juicer takes around 2.5 min and green star juicers take 2.12 min for cleaning. (if you just use water and brush for cleaning)

among these parts, the juicer screen, and twin gear need more cleaning than other parts, you will need a good brush for these two parts of this type of juicer.

below you can see a video of cleaning a green star juicer within 2.12 min

what makes cleaning easier

After every juice-making process, you have to clean your juicer to make your juicer in good functional condition. If you wait long, the pulp’s tiny bits can quickly harden, making them much harder to remove later.

If you’re serious and like to make juice daily, keeping five minutes every day for cleaning juicing machine parts is necessary for you to keep the juicer machine good

If you are in a hurry, you can put your juicer parts (that come to contact with the juice you made) in the water basin. So that pulp doesn’t stick in the juicer screen or gears or other parts. And then clean when you are free.

but don’t too long, which may cause corrosion.

  • You can make juice in a batch if you have masticating or twin-gear or cold press, or a citrus juicer for 3 days maximum. As juice can be stored in a freezer for 3 days maximum without any spoilage. which will reduce your cleaning for a big deal

Have some good tools and cleaning material like below that will reduce your cleaning time a lot. For instance, a good cleaning brush can make your cleaning a lot faster.

Tools and Materials

Tools

  • Soft-bristled bottle brush
  • Toothbrush
  • Microfiber cloth

Materials

  • Baking soda
  • Distilled white vinegar

Look for Cleaning technology in your juicer

self-cleaning with example

Some juicers come with self-cleaning features; they are easy to clean to some extent but need cleaning the juicer screen by yourself using a hand brush. As most of the time, the particles in your juicer screen are hard to remove.

Dishwasher safe

Dishwasher safe nowadays most of the good juicers are dishwasher safe. but you should not clean your juicer screen in a dishwasher as you will be better off by cleaning it with a brush.

caution always read the manufacturer’s guidelines on how to use and clean your particular juicer model to prevent damage to components.

Know which parts of your juicer are dishwasher-safe; if the manufacturer recommends hand-washing for a particular part, take their advice. If you have lost or misplaced the user guide, you can usually find it online.

Deep cleaning once a month or a week

You don’t need to deep-clean your juicer every time you make your juice. It takes a longer time than that of a normal rinse with clean water.

But, its good idea to do it once or twice in a month. as you will be able to remove stains that grows overtime in your juicer.

to remove your juicer stains you may need some baking soda and vinegar.

Hard to clean fruits and vegetable

What vegetables should not be juiced?

soft fruits and vegetables ( eg )are hard to clean
